Some 113,000 companies suspended their activity in the first three quarters of this year, which is 11 times more companies than the same period last year.

At the same time, the number of people asking for legal permit of their professional activity went up 75%, from 18,700 in 2008 to 33,086 this year.

Also, the number of companies voluntarily closing went up 4.7, to 14,700, the National Office for the Commerce Registry showed.

Most companies were suspended in Bucharest - 17,200 of them, followed by Cluj County, with 6,770 companies, and Brasov County, with 5,333 companies.
Bucharest also leads for companies closing down - 3,601 of them, with Bihor County following, at 1,019 closed companies.
Most of the voluntary suspending and closing of companies are due to the minimum tax rate raised since May this year.

The total number of companies operating at the end of September stayed at 1.04 million, with 339,500 natural persons authorized for professional activities, and 700,450 legal persons.
