GENERAL ELECTIONS 2004 - December 2nd 2004
The Central Election Bureau aggregated Wednesday data coming in from all voting precincts around the country.
Final results show Adrian Nastase and the Social Democrat Party - Romanian Humanist Party Union lead.
In the presidential race, the final count of
votes shows:
Nastase leads with 40.94% of the votes (or 4,278,864 votes in absolute numbers);
Traian Basescu, running on a National Liberal Party - Democrat Party Alliance ticket, comes behind him, with 33.92% of the votes (or 3,545,236 votes);
Corneliu Vadim Tudor, running for the Greater Romania Party, took 12.57% of the votes (or 1,313,714 votes);
Marko Bela, running for the Democrat Union of Hungarians in Romania, got 5.1% of the votes, (or 533,446 votes);
Gheoghe Ciuhandu, from the National Peasant Party - Christian Democrat, received 1.9% of the votes (or 198,394 votes);
Gigi Becali, from the New Genration Party, got 1.77% of the votes (or 184,560 votes);
Petre Roman, from the Democractic Force, received 1.35% of the votes (or 140,702 votes);
Gheorghe Dinu, on an independent ticket, took 1.08% of the votes (or 113,321 votes).
The other candidates got under 1% of the votes.
The total valid votes was 10,452,205, and that of the null votes was 339,010 (or 3,14%).
For the Senate, the SDP-RHP union got 37.13% of the votes (or 3,798,607 votes);
The NLP-DP Alliance got 31.77% of the votes (or 3,250,663 votes);
The GRP got 13.63% of the votes (or 1,394,698 votes);
The DUHR got 23% of the votes (or 637,109 votes).
The total number of valid votes was 10,231,476, and that of the null votes is 556,128 (5,15%).
Under the 5% vote needed to enter Parliament were listed the New Generation Party, with 2.36% of the vote (or 241,486 votes), the NPP-CD, with 1.92% of the votes (or 196,027 votes); even lower than that were FDR, PSU, PUNR, the Popular Action, the Romanian Socialist Party, the Romanian Workers Party, URR, the National Socialist Alliance, the National Christian Democrat Party, the SDP-Constantin Titel Petrescu, the Party of the Democrat Youth, the Popular Christian-Democrat Alliance, the New Democracy Party, the Third Millenium Party, For the Motherland Party, the Alliance for the Unity of the Roma, independent candidates, the Popular Party from Romania, the Force of Justice.
For the House of Deputies:
The SDP-RHP got 36.61% of the votes (or 3,730,352 votes); the NLP-DP Alliance got 31.33% of the votes (or 3,191,546 votes); the GRP got 12.92% of the votes (or 1,316,751 votes) and the DUHR got 6.17% of the votes (or 628,125 votes).
Under the 5% threshold for Parliament entry were the New Generation Party with 2.23% (or 227,443 votes);
The NPP-CD got 1.85% (or 188,268 votes); FDR, PSU, PUNR, Popular Action, the Romanian Socialist Party, the Romanian Workers Party, URR, the Socialist Alliance Party, the National Christian Democrat Party, the SDP-Constantin Titel Petrescu, the Democratic Youth Party, the Popular Christian Democrat Alliance, the New Democracy Party, the Third Millenium Party, the For the Homeland Party, the Alliance for the Unity of the Roma, the independent candidates, the Popular Party from Romania, the Force of Justice, the Social Democrat Party of the Roma, and 25 organizations of the citizens belonging to ethnic minorities.
The total number of valid votes was 10,188,106, and the one of the null votes was 599,641 (or 5,55%).
The president of the Central Election Bureau, judege Emil Ghergut, said that results are deemed to be still provisional since not all reports from all precincts reached the Bureau. The results will become valid once all paper-reports reach the Bureau.
