Romania's Ministry Of Agriculture Lays Off A Third Of Its Civil Servants

13 Iul 2010   •   00:00

Romania's Ministry for Agriculture and Rural Development will lay off a third of its employees, or 4,463 of the 13,302 people on its pay-roll, according to a draft Executive Order. The majority of the remaining positions will be financed from the state budget, with only 2,193 positions in public institutions which manage and finance their own budgets.

This overall statistics translates differently lower down, as the ministry's county branches will take a bigger hit, with two thirds of people let go, to bring the number of civil servants from 3,435 down to 1,255. While the National Agency for Husbandry will keep 302 of its current 854 employees.

The Central Plants Lab will keep 118 of 133 people, while the Agency for Payment and Intervention in Agriculture will keep 4,862 of its 5,402 current employees.
The Agency for State Land Domain will employ 246, from 326 before; the National Agency for Fishing and Aquaculture will keep 97 of its 155 employees, and The National Agency for Payment of Rural development and Fisheries will keep 1,453 of its current 1,613 employees.

This time, however, the ministry in Bucharest will increase its personnel, from 483 to 686, due to relocation of people from other agencies that had been shut down or sized down.
