Florin Serban's "When I want to wistle, I wistle" won the Silver Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival on Saturday.
The director also received the Alfred Bauer Award for bringing new perspectives into cinematography. Bauer was the founder of the Berlin Festival.
The award was handed on stage to George Pistereanu, who had the lead part in the movie and thanked the director for the chance he gave him and to his fellow cast members.
The script is an adaptation of a play with the same name, written by Andreea Vălean, which tells the story of a teenage boy who decides to escape the juvenile prison two weeks before his release prevent his mother take his younger brother to Italy. Complicating the story is the fact that he also falls in love with a sociology student doing her internship at the prison. The cast also includes Ada Condeescu, Clara Voda and Mihai Constantin.
