Romanian President Traian Basescu Left Hospital

Romanian President Traian Basescu Friday left a Bucharest hospital after two weeks of intensive physical training there, to recover after surgery on a herniated disc in early May.

Basescu wore a sports suit and was extremely joyful, while his wife held him by the hand. Basescu said he could hardly wait to get home, where he had all he needed, including a gym.

He was to go to work on Saturday and Sunday, to be ready for the Black Sea Forum, scheduled to start on Monday.

Basescu thanked the doctors at the Elias Hospital, in Bucharest, for helping him recover and be able to work again.

"I still have to work on my physical recovery from six months to one year till full recovery," told Basescu the waiting journalists.

He promised his Bucharest doctors he would continue to do his exercises, including at the presidential palace, where he had no gym, but a long, sturdy table, good enough for the job. Basescu also promised he would return to the Elias Hospital for the regular check-ups.

"I really am allowed to do all I can do," said Basescu laughing.

According to his therapist, Dr. Mihai Berteanu, Basescu would not be allowed for some time to lift heavy weights, to make sudden moves, to experience cold or dump weather. Also, he is not allowed to drive the car.
