The Disintegration Flu

The officials in Bucharest have tried to minimize the warning of the Romanian ambassador in the EU by saying the avian flu cannot lead to the postponement of the integration. The President of the Romania - EU Mixed Parliamentary Committee, Guido Podesta, is saying quite the contrary.

Yesterday, during a press conference, the Co-President of the Romania - EU Mixed Parliamentary Committee, Italian Guido Podesta, said the never-ending avian flu crisis could lead to the postponement of Romania’s integration in the EU.

SUGGESTION. "The situation is quite serious at present. This emergency has to be solved, because, otherwise, it would lead to the postponement of Romania’s integration in the European Union", Podesta stated. The European MP believes there is a necessity for more restrictive rules at local level, because this is where the problems really are. The EU is preoccupied by the administration of the bird flu. "It is a very bad thing not to be able to control such crises", which the European MP sees as "a test of responsibility and efficiency" for the authorities in Bucharest."We are expecting a complete involvement of the Romanian Government in solving these problems and keeping under control the new pest holes", Podesta concluded.

IGNORED WARNING. On Monday, Jurnalul National published the contents of an info gram sent to the Romanian authorities by their representative for the European institutions, Lazar Comanescu. The ambassador was warning the executive about the serious doubts of the communitarian institutions towards Romania’s ability of managing a crisis in the agriculture and food safety department and, more seriously, about the truth of the information sent to the European Commission by Bucharest. Therefore, the info gram says about the fact that Brussels has started to think about the activation of the saving clause, which would lead to the postponement of Romania’s adherence to the EU. The Romanian Givernment spokesperson, Oana Marinescu, was saying that day that the authorities in Bucharest do not think about such a thing: "The sanitarian-veterinarian department cannot activate the saving clause; it can only affect the sector clauses." This is either profound incompetence from the ones that administer the integration and the agriculture, showed by the lack of understanding of the communitarian principles and of the messages from Brussels, either an unsuccessful attempt to camouflage the seriousness of the situation.

ECHO FOR OUR SIGNALS. Jurnalul National had repeatedly warned about the dubious auctions regarding the services for the disinfection of the vehicles and trains, which have been organized by the National Motorway Company, which is subordinated to the Ministry of Transport, as well as about the services of certain companies that had won these auctions. Our signals have finally reached their target. The Ministry of Transport, led by Gheorghe Dobre (photo), is to be investigated by the Sanitarian Veterinarian National Agency and by the Investigation Group subordinated to the Prime Minister.

"Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu is preoccupied by the large sums of money spent for the disinfection and by the signals in the press regarding this issue", Oana Marinescu explained. She added that the PM is also worried because the huge sums from the budget had been spent and that there are demands for more funds
