The 2009 Romania's unemployment rate will not climb to two digits, the minister for Public Finance Gheorghe Pogea said.
He added the budget will be rectified in August to give 864 million Euro more to the unemployment expense bracket, and estimated that the climb in the unemployment rate will be more moderate, in spite of the contraction of the economy, which is deemed to continue for the next two quarters.
Pogea reminded that Romania's unemployment rate was the fifth lowest, among the UE-27 nations.
He also said the overall unemployment rate might climb in 2010 due to the restructuring of the public sector; the private sector, however, may see its job market expanding, as a result of the slight economic growth forecast at 0.5%.
The 2009 unemployment rate in July 2009 was 6.3%, which is 0.3 higher than the month before and 2.7 higher than the same month last year, according to data from the National Agency for the Workforce Employment. The total number of unemployed reached 572,562 at the end of July, which is 23,632 more than in June.
