Conservative Party founder Dan Voiculescu criticized the recent initiative of the Health minister Eugen Nicolaescu to make health care more profitable to doctors. “He skids on reality,” said Voiculescu of Nicolaescu.

“The current state of affairs is that hospital wards are underfunded, and a visit to the emergency-care hospitals alone will clarify things for good: they are filthy and infested with cockroaches; the toilets are a shame and the general lack of hygiene makes them a dangerous place to seek your health in,” added Voiculescu.

He reminded that after endless years of so-called reforms in the health care system, one should recognize that that the dire financial need the hospitals are in is to be blamed on poor financing and political appointment of managers.

“While people are still bring their medication from home and hospital units lack basic equipment; to promise a hike in doctors' salaries is foolish,” said Voiculescu. Furthermore, the criteria to be used for assessing higher performance on the job for these professionals are not suited for the medical profession.
