COMPETITION

Approximately 240 sorts of wine, from 18 countries, took part, between the 31st of October and the 2nd of November, in the second edition of the International Wine Contest in Bucharest. Romania participated with the results of the work from 30 wine producers and importers, among which we mention Cotnari, Murfatlar, the Prahova Wine Cellars, Odobesti, Pietroasele, the Recas Wine Cellars and Vincon Vrancea. Contestants: Bacchic liquids from South Africa - country that won the highest number of medals at the red wines section last year - Australia, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal and California.

TIGHT RACE

"This year, the wines presented have been very close one to another from the value point of view, and judging results were very tight. This is the reason that determined the jury to award only silver and gold medals", stated Ovidiu Gheorghe, general manager of the National Vineyard and Wine Association (NVWA), one of the event’s organizers. There were 66 of them. "Romanian wines recorded a resonant success, 56 medals being awarded, much more that at the 2003 edition", said Gheorghe.

WINNERS

The first place in the producers’ competition was taken by Murfatlar, with 8 golden medals, Cotnari, 5 gold medals and a silver one, and Vincon Vrancea and the Recas Wine Cellars, with one golden medal and 4 of silver.
