POLITICS - August 20 2004
Starting yesterday, Dorin Tudoran became the new political consultant for the Romanian Humanist Party (RHP).

He is well-known for his literary activity, for the verse and prose volumes he published but also for the conflict he found himself in with the communist regime, which expelled him from Romania in 1985.
Tudoran did not engage actively in politics following 1989, and the RHP is the first party he ever accepted to advise.
"Two things were instrumental to decide working with the RHP. One was pragmatic and the most important: I found at the core of the RHP doctrine an idea which I cherish - that there is a need to build a middle class in Romania. A society in transition is not able to go past difficult periods with no middle class [to support it]. The polarization of society - with the few very rich and the very many poor - is devastating and leads it to disaster," said Tudoran.
For his part, Dan Voiculescu, leader of the RHP, said that "always a clear mind to look at issues from a distance and stop you from doing stupid things is needed."
Tudoran said that he cannot guarantee the RHP will earn this or that percentage of votes resulting from his advising the party. "I want that my analyses and advice provided to the RHP to consolidate and raise its voting base when compared to the results in the local elections," explained Tudoran.
