Eurocopter Wants to Modernize the Army

Eurocopter Romania has initiated yesterday in Brasov a production hall. Phillipe Camus, the executive president of the EADS (European Aeronautic, Defense and Space Company) group, and the Prime Minister of Romania, Adrian Nastase took part in the celebration yesterday.

Eurocopter has been created in 2002 as a mixed company, as a partner with the Romanian Planes Enterprise (RPE) Ghimbav. For the present time, the company has more than 100 employees and fixes the Puma helicopters belonging to the Ministry of Defense from Great Britain. "The signing of the modernizing contracts for 25 Puma helicopters for the United Arab Emirates, from April last year, a contract obtained due to the efforts of the two partners, confirms the foundation of this company", stated Camus.

OPPORTUNITIES. "I also think that it would be essential that, according to the cooperation agreement between RPE Brasov and Eurocopter Romania, the modernization projects for the Puma helicopters for the Defense Ministry of Romania will start soon", added the EADS executive president. "We all know that Romania needs new devices, modern helicopters, for some segments like the police departments and for the boundary protection units and for the hospitals also", explained Nastase the opportunity of the collaboration with EADS.

"We have to be able to make here the most part of the assemblage and then to produce exchange parts", added the Prime Minister.

MONEY. Eurocopter is a subsidiary of EADS, the world leaders of the aeronautics and defense industry. In 2003 the turnover of EADS was 30.1 billion euros, the company having more than 109,000 employees. The EADS group includes Airbus, the Aircraft factory, Eurocopter, the world leader in the helicopter supplying department, and the mixed company MBDA, the runner up in the missiles world market hierarchy.
