Romanian fiscal authorities, or ANAF, filed in the first eight months 6,740 law suits against companies that did not pay an aggregate 5.3 billion lei (about 1.24 billion Euro). A fifth of the companies sued are in fact not existing, Mediafax reports.
ANAF states in its press-release that the 20% non-existent companies are responsible for 36% of the loss to the state coffers.
There are 1,151 companies that owe over 100,000 Euro each, making an aggregate of 1.13 billion Euro.
ANAF was able to seize properties from 1,923 companies, to make up for the loss of 532 million Euro.
