Russian giant Gazprom has officially entered the Romanian market. Although its main field of activity is the production and export of gas, the company will enter the electricity market in our country.
On July 16th, the National Regulatory Authority for Energy (ANRE) granted an electricity supply license for Gazprom Marketing Trading, based in England, a subsidiary of the Russian group.
According to the company's website, it invests in electricity generation assets alone or in partnership with other companies. Gazprom's presence in Romania in this area is linked to the initiation of a joint company between Romgaz, the national gas producer, and the Russian giant.
Adriean Videanu said in May, after returning from a visit to Moscow, that "the Gazprom-Romgaz partnership has a first specific element: the initiation of a joint venture for the construction of gas storage and the perspective of electricity production." The Minister also said that Gazprom and Romgaz will build the gas station from Iernut (Mures), with a capacity of 600 megawatts, or that they will participate in modernizing plants held by Electrocentrale Bucharest (ELCEN), which have a total capacity of 3000 MW.
