George Soros Is Lobbying for the Roma

On the 1st of July Romania is to take over the Presidency of the Decade for the Roma social Inclusion, this being the most important issue in George Soros’s agenda, who will be in Romania for three days.

OPINION. George Soros says that the global tax rate is benefic.

I hope that the Romanian Government will handle the challenge and will act for fighting against the poverty and the social exclusion of the Roma, businessperson George Soros stated. His organization, Open Society Institute, is one of the financers of the program. One of the main problems of the educational process for the Roma children is the segregation, by registering them in special groups or together with the children with mental disorders, and one of the objectives of the "Decade for the Inclusion of the Roma" is its elimination.

PROGRAMS. The decade for the inclusions of the Roma means a series of governmental and non-governmental programs for the improvement of the status of this ethnic group, which will be financed from the state budget and from external funds, this being an initiative supported by the international community. The Decade is actually the opportunity for the Governments of nine countries in the Central and South-Eastern Europe to act. Yesterday morning, George Soros had a meeting with President Traian Basescu, during which they discussed, "mainly, about the Decade", as he stated.

The Romanian Presidency will organize in September, as owner of the Decade’s Presidency, an international meeting in Bucharest, which should take on problems regarding the Roma’s social inclusion, as well as the education, employment, health and living environment of them.

THE REFORM. Businessperson George Soros stated he has high hopes that Romania would correct its deficiencies that delayed its adherence to the European Union and that the global tax rate is a good thing that will lead to the increase in the budget. He expressed his hope that the new legislative package regarding the property and the justice, for which the present Government will take full responsibility in the Parliament, will improve the way to Romania’s adherence to the EU.

As for the negative votes of France and Holland towards the European Constitution, George Soros said that it represented a shock for the European financial world, which will lead to serious efforts for defending euro in order to avoid its crash.

BUSINESS. Asked about his charity acts and the affairs he runs, George Soros said he is a retired businessman. "I don’t take care personally of the investments anymore, so I cannot say whether or what I will invest in." According to some representatives of the organizations supported by Soros in Romania, the American billionaire, who is actually coming from Hungary, invested in the supporting of some non-governmental organizations. He started to do that in 1985, and he reached 6 billion US dollars.
