The number of tourism packages Romanians bought this year for the Easter vacation dropped 20% from last year.
Some of the tour-operators say the drop is partly to be blamed on the two week gap between the Easter brake and the May 1st brake. "In fact, Romanians will have access to two short vacations, hence the difference," said Traian Bădulescu, spokesperson for the National Association of Tour-operators.So far, some 30,000 Romanians made reservations for vacationing locations around Romania, and another 30,000 are expected to make their choice next week. At the same time, some 25,000 Romanians chose to spend their Easter vacation abroad.
Last year there were some 80,000 vacations sold, of which 35,000 to destinations abroad.
