Under other similar circumstances, the naming of a new dignitary would have been delayed. In the External Affairs case, the PM quickly found a replacement, checked and named him and the President didn’t hesitate to agree with the proposition. The quickness of Traian Basescu didn’t surprise us. We remember that, during the annual reunion of the diplomats on the 3rd of September 2007, Mr. President wanted to set an example. Therefore he behaved in the same way his military teachers used to in Military School. He called loud and clear the name of Lazar Comanescu, a man with grey hair and great years of experience in the background and he didn’t even wonder why the president didn’t take that into account. His answer was also a military one: “Yes, sir!” Such a dignitary is the presidential ideal when it comes to life and people. Romania is a ship (something like the Titanic) and the Absolute Captain, Traian Basescu, will always be on its deck. From this point of view, Lazar Comanescu is a good preface for the future ministers of the D-LP Government. All of them, including the PM (probably Theodor Stolojan), will be in position whenever the Great Commander will pass by.
The surprise comes from the quickness of Calin Popescu Tariceanu. Adrian Cioroianu had just announced his resignation when the Prime Minister was announcing his replacement. Of course, we should think that Calin Popescu Tariceanu spent his entire weekend trying to find a new Minister in the place of Adrian Cioroianu. However, there might be people thinking that Lazar Comanescu had been named long before the resignation of Adrian Cioroianu, probably on the 3rd of April, when the Crulic scandal started. However, due to such thoughts I remembered an interview of mine with Viorel Catarama on Antena 3 some time ago. Former colleague and friend of Calin Popescu Tariceanu, Viorel Catarama wanted to warn us that the current PM is a ferocious politician willing to do whatever it takes to have the power despite the image he had created for himself. I didn’t pay too much attention to that at the time. However, very well-planned moves took place and they didn’t target only Traian Basescu, but his party colleagues as well: Ludovic Orban, Norica Nicolai. The social-democrats were next and they were fooled by the excellent comedy of the danger called Traian Basescu written and directed by Calin Popescu Tariceanu.
Adrian Cioroianu was too naïve and believed the PM when he told that the Crulic scandals would hurt the Government and the liberal party and a solution needed to be found. Traian Basescu also believed him. If Traian Basescu was fooled by hypocrite Tariceanu, how could Adrian Cioroianu resist?
