POLITIC - June 26 2004
The Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, Sergiu Sechelariu, has submitted his resignation. He is the first important member of the "Group in Bacau" forced to step out, after the unexpected defeat in the latest local elections of his elder brother, Dumitru Sechelariu (the former mayor of the city, who lost in the recent 2nd round of the local elections that took place in the 20th of June).
Yesterday, Sergiu Sechelariu has submitted, his resignation from the job as Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Tourism to the Prime Minister, Adrian Nastase. His resignation has been accepted by the chief of the Government, stated the spokeswoman of the Government, Despina Neagoe. Sechelariu also asked for a complete investigation of his activities as the former Secretary of State, in order to eliminate all the doubts about that. He stated that he feels sorry about the "uninspired public statements which have been made under the influence of his morale state caused by the wish to support my brother in his campaign" in Bacau. Present in Bacau to support his brother during the campaign, Sergiu Sechelariu admitted that, with the help of his position in the Romanian Government, he took funds from other counties and brought them to Bacau. He says he did that in order to reward the ones who voted for Dumitru Sechelariu four years ago. Furthermore, he said that the city hall of Bacau will receive more funds if his brother would become mayor.
