An extremely significant moment in the life and activity of the SDP led by Mircea Geoana has passed as a watch in the night.
On Friday, the 20th of October 2006, Marian Vanghelie, the SDP (the Social Democratic Party) Bucharest Executive President, has called the Organizationâs Executive Bureau to discuss the possible candidacy of Sorin Oprescu for the party president. The fact that Marian Vanghelie did this is the first of many strange events at SDP. As far as we know, the Organizationâs President is the only one to call a session of the Executive Bureau. The second strange thing is the fact that Sorin Oprescu was abroad when this happened. He was present at the session on Friday by pure accident. He got back into the country because he found out about the session called by his deputy. The third strange thing is the attitude of the Bureauâs members. There wasnât one to ask themselves about the reason for which they should attend a session called by Marian Vanghelie without the Presidentâs knowledge. These strange things could be explained by facts in a reality held apart from the eyes of the public opinion in the well-known SDP style, very much related to the secrecy specific to the Romanian Communist Party. Lately, Sorin Oprescu has started to show interest in the partyâs presidency. It caused a great restlessness to Mircea Geoana, who knows that he will remain the partyâs President as long as there will not be an important competitor. Sorin Oprescu is such a competitor. Ion Iliescu is held apart by the harassments from the Military Prosecutorâs Office. Adrian Nastase still has some unfinished business with NAD (the National Anti-corruption Directorate). Both Ion Iliescu and Adrian Nastase are victims of the abuses of the institutions controlled by Traian Basescu. SDP is to support Traian Basescu during the Presidential elections. It will probably propose a poor competitor who shouldnât trouble the present President. In exchange, the President is doing all he can to take all the real competitors for Mircea Geoan out of SDP. Traian Basescu would support Mircea Geoana even is it werenât for this bargain. With a tin-foiled leader under the control of the group in Cluj, SDP is highly probable to suffer a fall in the polls to the level of an ordinary pocket party. Since the main Opposition party is just a name on a sheet of paper, Traian Basescu and his party will rule Romania for a long period of time. Of all the present SDP leaders, Sorin Oprescu is immune to the abuses of the force institutions of the ascending presidential dictatorship system. Even if it were for him to have a fabricated file, Sorin Oprescu has a very good image in the public opinion and it wouldnât affect him too much.Citește pe Antena3.ro
We donât understand Sorin Oprescu.
Well, actually, we do.
He is not Sorin Oprescu anymore, he is a brave SDP member.
