A Full Fledged Public Uproar

31 Mai 2005   •   00:00

Jurnalul National carried a headline Saturday which tried to best capture what is happening right now in Romania: "We Are Engulfed in Scandals," it said. The crisis broking up after the release of the journalists held hostage in Iraq; the crisis of freeing Corneliu Iacobov from prison; the crisis of imprisoning businessman Dinu Patriciu [and then releasing him.]

  • The hostage crisis in itself was enough to blow up any editorial plan, with papers barely keeping pace with events. Up to six pages were different from one issue of the paper to the next one, during the same day.
These were crazy times, when one scandal came after another, with a pinnacle on Friday.
I wonder not if we, the journalists, were able to keep up with the pace of the events, but if you, the public, were able to do that.
Do you still follow all events; do you still stay up in the wee hours of the morning to watch the televised debates?
Really, are you still able to do all that?
