A wind blow caused a Spartan C 27 J cargo plane of the Bulgarian army to waver on landing at Varna, and one wing tip the runway, loosing the engine attached on it. No casualties were reported, according to the Novinite.com website.

The plane was coming from Plovdiv. The traffic on the Varna airport was not disrupted as a result of the accident.

The Alenia made airplane was delivered last year to the Bulgarian Air Forces, but not fully equipped for the missions. Alenia, which is part of Spain's Finn Mecanica group, was supposed to deliver all the missing equipment by April this year. Neither the Bulgarian Air Forces nor Alenia made a public statement as to the exact moment the night-time flight equipment had been delivered, if it had.

This is the first news on the Spartan C27J plane performance since Alenia won the bidding for delivering its airplanes to the Bulgarian and Romanian air forces. The latter is to receive seven such planes, the first of which should come this year. However, Romania did not sign a maintenance contract yet, for the small fleet of planes it bought from Alenia. The incident in Bulgaria, triggered by the blowing wind on a runway, raises serious questions regarding the performance of the planes bought by he Romanian Ministry of Defense, which the latter said were “exceptional.”
