Appeal to the Families of the Lost Ones

14 Iun 2005   •   00:00

Jurnalul National has started a complex campaign with the purpose of clarifying one of the files of the recent history, which we suggestively called "The Cauldrons of Death". This is about all those Romanians that got across the Danube to the Yugoslav shore in the times of the communists. This is also for the ones that, in their search for freedom, drowned in the Danube. There were a lot that managed to get on the other side, to the Yugoslavians and further to the West. But there were as many that ended this last journey tragically. Their aggrieved families are still wondering about them. They are still to receive a proof of life or death. Jurnalul National and the National Institute for the Memory of the Romanian Exile (INMER) call these families for being able to create a database of the ones whose faith is still uncertain. We hope that this would help the authorities to start a thorough investigation for their identification, in case that they ended up in the waters of the Danube and rest in peace in anonymous tombs, on the Yugoslavian or Romanian side of the frontier-river. We also hope that the ones buried in Yugoslavian dust will be brought back home and a statue will be put where they rest in peace.
