British citizen Barry George suffered a heart attack Saturday in Bucharest and is now under medical supervision in the cityâs emergency hospital.
George made headlines both in Romania and UK after authorities in London started to investigate him for his alleged involvement in paying a hefty seven million pounds commission to British officials agreeing to sell frigates to Romaniaâs Navy. The UKâs Serious Fraud Office sSFOt and Romaniaâs anticorruption prosecutors are still investigating the case of the sell of the two British frigates to Romania. George and his wife Georgiana are well known to political and business circles in Romania. They are in fact shareholders in two Romanian companies. One of the two is AXIS TRADE & CONSULTING SRL, headquartered in Bucharest, which is under SFO investigation. The Georges also own two British companies which they set up in the â80s: ROM-AIR LIMITED and ROM-CAR LIMITED.
