DGIA and SRI Got His Scent

The authorities have already detained a suspect in the file of the secret military information leak to the press. He is a non-com, who was part of a unit of the Ministry of National Defense in Focsani and took part in the operations in Afghanistan.

The specialist prosecutors of the High Court of Cassation and Justice, together with two information officers from the General Information Direction of Defense (DGIA) and the Romanian Secret Service (SRI), have got the scent of the non-com because there were clues indicating that he had in his personal computer the same data that had been given to two important newspapers. This was certified during the search, when the computer was accessed.

The representatives of the two services have established that the data held by the non-com are secret and this is why it is considered that he committed a felony. He broke the law regarding the protection of the classified information, as well as of the military regulations, which fully interdicts the abstraction and holding of classified data and information.

ACCOMPLICES

After detaining him, the prosecutors have put out a bench warrant for 29 days. From the so-far presentations, they found out that the non-com had the classified information, but there were other people to set up their distribution to the press. Now, the prosecutors are on the traces of other suspects, and their identity is already known.

Two assumptions are taken into consideration to justify the leak: obtaining important sums of money from the media or a revenge that targets the heads of the MND.

The prosecutors taking care of the case think that the arrest of the non-com together with the clues obtained so far with the help of the DGIA specialists, which continue on supplying important information for the investigation, will allow them to end the case as soon as possible.

Actually, the file of the non-com has already been sent to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, where it will be judged under special conditions.
