  • Schroeder made the statement yesterday, during his meeting with Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu.

Schroeder said the EADS contract is on the agenda for talks with the Romanian PM but declined giving any further details. Schroeder thus answered a question regarding his assessment of the EU criticism prompted by Romania’s public acquisitions policy. The German Chancellor witnessed last summer the signing of the contract in Bucharest, by Rainer Hertrich, Executive Manager of EADS, and Toma Zaharia, deputy minister of interior and administration.

At the end of May EADS made public that would accept to renegotiate the contract, estimated at one billion euros, with the current government, according to Vasile Blaga, Romanian minister of interior. EADS agreed to change the contract in those parts which overlap with similar projects funded by EU money, via the PHARE programs.
