Even though it came as a surprise, the announcement made on Thursday, the 29th of June 2006, at the NLP (the National Liberal Party) headquarters by the PM and the Minister of the National Defense was predictable. Of course, it seems quite strange that NLP, a right-oriented party, approached a theme the left likes much more. For example, in Italy, the united left won the elections by demanding the withdrawal of the Italian troops in Iraq, the same troops that the right had sent there.
It also seems strange that the NLP decision is not a consequence of a certain dramatic event on the fronts in Iraq and Afghanistan. On Thursday night, during the funerals of the soldiers killed in Afghanistan, PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu was a splendid mute spectator. If he felt so sorry for the possible future sufferance of other families, he could have given a sign by knitting his brows against the presidential blubber. He could have organized a press conference before or after the event and he could have discussed about the presence of the Romanian troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Why was it so predictable? Because the amazing choke with the Dan Voiculescu case and the dishonorable fall of the Censorship Motion have created a new political reality: Until the 1st of January 2007, the Government of the chaotic coalition, identified as being formed of NLP almost exclusively, cannot be taken down.Citește pe Antena3.ro
a) trollopish electoral campaign;
b) merciless robbing of the national treasure.
It is an electoral-campaign-like statement.
It appeared at the NLP headquarters but not at the Government. Not just to attract the electors towards NLP, but also not to ruin the Governmentâs relationships with the USA and England.
If this will ever be necessary, the PM and the Minister of Defense could say very clearly that the statements were made by them as members of NLP, but not as dignitaries. Traian Basescu had observed the new reality. Right after the CP (the Conservatory Party) bluff, the President started a campaign in the hospitals. An electoral campaign that targets the SDP (the Social Democratic Party) electorate, the Ion Iliescu side. Under the same influence, the message in the Parliament took care of Health, Education and Pensions. The NLP action also targets that part of the SDP electorate. The Romanian troops in Iraq should have been the favorite theme for SDP, or, better, for the Social Democratic Pole, which was blocked by the maneuvers of the Power together with the present leading board of SDP.
