The historical transformations that Romania suffered through all these 15 years were unimaginable in December â89. It is unbelievable, but true: Romania, one of the former members of the communist block, is a NATO member nowadays. The true meaning of this will probably be understood in the future more than it is now.

To be convincing, I will ask you to focus on December â89, during Ceausescuâs communist dictatorship, and you will understand me very well. This is for the ones that lived it and are able to remember what life lead by Ceausescu meant. The historical perspective I am talking about here might not have any meaning for the younger people, for the ones aged 15, 21 and even 30. Here is where the problem is. They are only able to see the recent bad things, and the path we followed from communism to capitalism doesnât touch them at all. The only thing that counts for them is today and, especially, tomorrow.
It is an important poll because it will bring the power, the Government, the Parliament, the Presidency into the hands of the people that will have to bring a good end to the transformations and exams that a country, which is to become member of the classy European Union family, will have to pass. Our vote will be, this way, a vote for a historical mandate, possibly unprecedented during all these 15 after-the-revolution years. It is the mandate that might make the wishes come true, that might transform Romania in a country that will have to go head-to-head with all the EU members, even if it will be harder at the beginning.
I am in no position to tell you who to vote for, but I can tell you what you have to vote for and, especially, what kind of mandate you will vote for!
