Motivated by the Reality

Yesterday, SDP (the Social Democratic Party) asked for the enacting of the emergency state in the flooded districts, the budget rectification, the IMF approval of the budget rectification and the European Union’s supports.

In his opening statement for the meeting of the National Permanent Bureau (NPB) with the representatives of the district subsidiaries, the SDP President, Mircea Geoana, stated that the reunion would be mostly dedicated to the floods and he asked the Prime Minister "to stop playing at resignation".

PROPOSALS. Mircea Geoana has also presented some propositions of SDP for finding solutions to diminish the effects of the inundations. Therefore, SDP demands the enacting of the emergency state in the affected districts and asks President Traian Basescu to call the meeting of the SCND (the Supreme Council for the National Defense) and to start the legal measures for this purpose. SDP proposes the assembling of an extraordinary Parliament session for the approval of a law for the rectification of the budget and for the identification of the massive budget resources. Moreover, they ask for the initiation of a national fund called "Solidarity". With this fund, the resources obtained from the privatizations, from other budget instruments and from the external support would be transformed in a budget instrument having the floods’ effects as exclusive destination. SDP asks the IMF to approve a temporary increase in the budget deficit of Romania by 1% of the GDP. They ask the European Union to find a financial instrument - another one than the instruments of support for emergencies - for the remedy of the infrastructures affected by the floods. The Social Democrats ask the EU to direct the PHARE and irredeemable help funds, which are yet to be awarded, towards the Romanian infrastructure exclusively.

NO HOLIDAY. On the other hand, the SDP president stated that the members of the party don’t have any holiday. The Parliament Members and the local elected members of the party in the affected areas should take care of the territory first, and they should come to Bucharest only for the important things regarding the country. Geoana asked all the young Social Democrats, all the members and the sympathizers of the party to go on and make some voluntary work.
The SDP executive president, Adrian Nastase, came with the idea of every member of the central leading board of the party to donate the equivalent of a monthly salary for these areas. The rest of the SDP members in the country should take similar decisions, but with sums agreed in every district.

ORDER FOR THE NLP-DP MEMBERS. "The Government did more it could. No one could fight the nature’s elements or God. We are asked superhuman things", the NLP (the National Liberal Party) spokesperson, Eugen Nicolaescu, complained yesterday when he was asked to analyze the way in which the Executive acted in the case of the floods. According to Nicolaescu, on Wednesday night, the NLP Executive Committee decided that the NLP dignitaries would participate to the people’s problems and in the inventory of the inundations. They would especially take care of finding solutions for finding the necessary resources for water, food, drugs and places to sleep, until they would be able to start the reconstruction. NLP has also asked the authorities to check the causes of the floods. The DP (the Democratic Party) leader, Emil Boc, has also asked all the democrat members to focus on the problem of the floods mainly, until the end of the crisis. "In these moments, the democrat Senators and Deputies have to be in the districts that sent them in the Parliament, where the citizens need them", Boc stated. The democrat Senators and Deputies will present a report regarding their actions in this period.
