Nastase - GRP and NLP out of the Government Scheme

22 Noi 2004   •   00:00

POLITICS - November 23rd 2004
SDP+HPR National Union’s candidate for Presidency, Adrian Nastase, stated that the Union hopes to reach such an electoral score to permit it the Government forming without any other political formation being necessary. "We don’t intend forming the Government together with GRP", said Adrian Nastase, in Cluj-Napoca. On the other hand, the SDP (Social Democratic Party) leader said he didn’t decide about GRP (Great Romania Party): "It is an opinion; I didn’t take any decision because that the electors will give us 51% of the parliamentary mandates and, this way, we should form the Government alone".

Even though during the last two weeks the SDP executive president, Octav Cozmanca, insisted on a possible co-optation of some NLP members for governing if the National Union SDP+HPR wins the elections without having the necessary majority, Nastase refuted this hypothesis.

FORMULA. Nastase stated that the continuation of the parliamentary support formula of the Government by DUHR is preferable. "Our goal is to form a Government together with NLP or with other political formation", said Adrian Nastase, adding that a one-party Government would be much more effective than a coalition one. He offered an example for this the 1996-2000 period when, because of a coalition Government, the country had a lot of suffering to bear. In the context, Adrian Nastase reminded that, according to the NLP-DP protocol, one of the parties would have the right to a vice-PM, who would veto rights. It is "inefficient" to have two persons with the same power of decision, said Nastase.

SUPPORT
Adrian Nastase talked again about the possibility that the former Internal Affairs Minister, Ioan Rus that quit from his job before the local elections could come back in a ministerial function, if the Union wins the elections. "Ioan Rus will have quite an important role taking into account that, during the electoral campaign, he proved he is the strongest SDP exponent in Transylvania", said Nastase. In his turn, Mircea Geoana, named as the PM candidate by the National union SDP+HPR, stated that "Ioan Rus, is and will be part of the team". "Ioan Rus is a serious person who fought for the interest of the Ardeal region and of Romania, in Bucharest, and we care a lot about him, as a partner", said Mircea Geoana.
