"We Want the Soldiers Home and the Engineers in Iraq!"

Yesterday, in Amman, President Traian Basescu said that he wants to bring his soldiers home and sent his engineers in their place in Iraq to help reconstructing this country.

The Economy marked the Second Day of the official Visit in Amman The speeches from the European Forum from the Four Seasons Hotel in Amman (where the President has been accommodated) were full of numbers and optimism.

SURPRISES

The list of the delegates at this forum was interesting. The names on it say more than any speech: Fathi Taher (the Rivta Group, Kandia Excelent, Laminate Co, Omniasig AGI, Hotel Grand or Orizont Tourism President, stock owner in a consortium at GES Boldesti-Scaieni), doctor Mohammed Yassin (the already famous "honest owner of Omar Hayssam’s (the interesting Syrian citizen involved in the kidnapping of the Romanian journalists in Iraq, who was in the room even though he hadn’t been on the list) inheritance", Adrian Sarbu (Media Pro International Group GM), vice-PM George Copos, Senator Attila Verestoy, Nicolae Badea (Computerland President), Dan Ostahie (Altex President), or Constantin Stroe (Dacia Automobile Industry GM). These are just some of the participants. Moreover, Ilie Nastase, the former ATP number 1, was also present. Trustful sources told us that he joined this delegation because he knew their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah. The President of the Jordanian Industry Chamber, Hatem Halawi, and the President of the Romanian Commerce Chamber, Haidar Murad, as well as his Romanian counterpart, Victor Babiuc, have talked about the potential of the Romanian-Jordanian economical relations for the future.

COLORED DELEGATION. Nicolae Badea, the Computerland President (center), businessman Fathi Taher (right) and former tennis player Ilie Nastase, all at the forum.

Sources in the delegation stated that the list with the delegates for the forum has been underwritten by vice-PM George Copos. There are people saying Fathi Taher hadn’t been on the list in order to avoid any commentaries, but he took part in the forum on his own as a Jordanian citizen and powerful businessman.

CONVERGENCES

In his speech to the participants, President Basescu emphasized the strong convergences at the target level between Romania and the Jordanian Kingdom regarding the security, stability and promotion of democracy. He stated that our country sees a priority in redealing the economical agreements with the Arabian countries. The Romanian economy has reached the stage in which it needs this, Basescu said. He added that our option of renegotiating the economical relations with the Arabian countries also comes from the economical needs of the Romanian companies and from the certitude that we invest in a future of peace and stability in the region.

According to Basescu, the investments made in the Jordanian Kingdom have the possibility to extend towards Iraq, in this country’s reconstruction process. "Our great wish regarding the Iraqi-Jordanian cooperation is to witness that moment in which we will call our soldiers home and send our engineers in their place to help for Iraq’s reconstruction", said the President twice. He concluded that he cannot tell the business community in Romania what to do but he advises them to invest in the Jordanian Kingdom and think of Iraq when they do that.

We have to mention that more Romanian companies have exhibited their ads at the entrance in the room in which the forum took place. Some of them were the Tiriac Bank, Petrom Service, GES SA, Romexpo, Laminate SA and even the Commerce and Industry Chamber of Romania.

A Sword for the King

President Traian Basescu offered the Hashemite King an old Romanian sword, a collection piece, with the occasion of his two day visit in Amman.
