About a quarter [24%] of the Romanian citizens emigrating in Italy work in the construction industry; some 12% are in housekeeping,; 8% in retail; 7% in industry and 7% in health care and social care, meaning they care for the elderly, a study ordered by the Romanian Agency for Governmental Strategies found.
The further breakdown of the professions Romanian citizens perform in Italy says that they are: 4% in agriculture; 4% in services; 4% are drivers; 2% are busboys or barmen; 2% care for children; 1% are pastry chefs; 1% are in the textile industry; 1% are mechanic; 1% are performing artists and 1% are begging in the street.
The research also found that 0.1% of Romanian with higher education work in the chemical industry; 0.2% - in education; 0.1% - in telecommunications; 0.1% - in the banking industry. Another 0.1% of the Romanians living in Italy are studying there.
The findings also showed that some 38% of Romanians emigrating in Italy graduated high-school there; 34% finished vocational training; 9% finished their elementary education; 7% graduated from a post-high school classes; another 7% are university graduates; some 0.5% finished their postgraduate studies, and 1% are illiterate.
The breakdown according to the Romanian regions the emigrants come from says that 43% of Romanians living in Italy came from Moldova; 30% - from Transylvania; 22% - from southern Romania, and 3% - from capital Bucharest.
