The Diplomats’ Wives Are a "Random Factor"

POLITICS - September 2nd 2004

Yesterday, President Ion Iliescu welcomed at Cotroceni the ambassadors and general representatives of Romania abroad, this being the last meeting of the mandate for the Chief of the State with the Romanian diplomacy.
By MONICA IORDACHE

Iliescu praised them for their accomplishments in the last four years, but he offered them the briefing they were used to for these annual meetings. He reminded them "families and the wives might a benefic, active, but also a random factor", that affects the diplomats’ activity and that the "attitude" and the message sent by the presence of an ambassador are very important.

Actually, today the diplomats’ wives will attend a course concerning the manners and the adequate behavior for the diplomatic activity, which is to be held by the wife of Mr. Mircea Geoana, the Minister for External Affairs, herself. This happens although, these courses used to be held by communication experts.

The Chief of the State recommended that the elections would not affect the coherence of the diplomatic activity and asked for the "human quality increase" for the diplomatic personnel.
