The First Political Reactions

NLP-DP The DP (Democratic Party) leader, Emil Boc, considers that the decision of the Constitutional Court is a "hit" against the reform of the justice system and an "invitation" for the EU to call the saving clause for the Justice. "The Court’s decision can be taken as professionally irresponsible. Yesterday, the institution had a strong political character and it has to take full responsibility for the consequences", Eugen Nicolaescu, the NLP (National Liberal Party) spokesperson, said in his turn. He said the decision was somehow predictable, "if we take into account the members of the Constitutional Court, who are former SDP Members of the Parliament, friends and relatives of several SDP politicians".

CP. The Conservatory Party (CP) will support an extraordinary session of the Parliament for re-discussing those articles in the law regarding the Justice, which have been considered as unconstitutional. This is what the CP spokesperson, Bogdan Ciuca, stated for Rompres yesterday.

DUHR. Yesterday, the DUHR (Democratic Union of the Hungarians in Romania) vice-president, Laszlo Borbely stated the decision of the Constitutional Court does not affect the essence of the Justice reform. He said DUHR proposed the Parliament’s extraordinary session to take place the following week. "This is the Constitutional Court’s decision and we have to accept it", he said.

SDP. The SDP (Social Democratic Party) Executive President, Adrian Nastase, considers the Constitutional Court’s decision is a "logical and normal decision for a democracy like the one we like to live in: the unconstitutional terms are denied. No extraordinary thing happened. On contrary, it was a gesture of normality. (…) SDP wasn’t involved in this decision by any means".

GRP. GRP (the Great Romania Party) vice-president, Lucian Bolcas, considers that the decision of the Constitutional Court is normal. He believes that the modifications of the Justice laws had been presented in a wrong way as an element of the integration and hopes the two Chambers will be in favor of debating the entire law project.
