Tiraspol - The Army Out for a Parade

OBSERVER - September 3rd 2004

Thousands of soldiers paraded yesterday-morning on the streets of Tiraspol to celebrate the 14 years since self-proclaimed independence declaration of the Nistru Moldovan Pepublic (NMR).
STEFAN SUSAI - Tiraspol

WARNING. The parade has not been just a festive one. The chiefs of the Tiraspol regime wanted to warn the Chisinau authorities that they have an army capable of fighting in case of a conflict. The Tiraspol leader, Igor Smirnov, watched the parade without discussing with anyone present near him in the improvised stand in the Suvorov Plaza.

The Tiraspol Minister of Defense, Lieutenant - General Vladislav Galimovici, has been the only official to have a speech. The chief of the army thanked Russia for helping them.

REVENGE. Talking about the situation of the Romanian schools in Transnistria, Galimovici stated that Tiraspol’s intention of taking control of the learning institutions is a response to Chisinau that, a decade ago, shut down the Russian language teaching schools. On the other hand, the NMR chiefs decorated the official newspapers in Tiraspol with the occasion of the Independence Day. The Nistru "Adevarul" and Dnestrovskaia Pravda have received the "ideological fight against neutralizing the fascism promoted by the Chisinau press" medal.

In yesterday’s newspapers, the Tiraspol authorities say they will allow the Romanian schools to go on with the learning process except the ones in Rabnita and Tiraspol justifying it this way: "The buildings are not in a very good state".
