Pope Benedict the Sixteenth has donated 25,000 US dollars to the suffering people in Moldova.
The sum has been transferred into the bank account of the Iasi Papal Bishopric with the purpose of being distributed in the flooded areas, says an official statement of the Iasi Diocese. Jean-Claude Prisset, the apostolic nuncio for Romania and the Republic of Moldova, appealed Rome for help for the suffering people in Moldova. According to the official statement, "Rome responded immediately" and transferred the money with the help of the "Cor Unum" Pontifical Council.
The Iasi Bishopric has also called the papal religious people to contribute "with facts and prayers for the people suffering from the floods". This way, on Sunday, all the 130 parishes in Moldova will organize a special collection for the suffering people. "The religious people will contribute with their money to comfort the people that have to suffer from the floods. In the same time, there are more parishes that gather clothes, blankets and non-perishable food", the Iasi Diocese says.
