Vaudeville and Drama

Even if I were to receive a front-row ticket, I wouldn’t go to see the stale vaudeville of the SDP Congress, which took place at Romexpo, as a preview for the pensioners’ New Year’s Eve Party. There are times in which one sees movies with old actors, made to show the respect for the people that used to rock the screen decades ago. Remakes of the remakes, without any good taste or goal. This image is similar to the one of a party that lives in the past. It’s nostalgic for them and horrible for us, the citizens. The intro was again hosted by the two toys that only work when they hold their hands, Iliescu and Nastase. A new University Plaza was organized outside with kids born in 1990. In this short period of time they heard about the sinister comics of the nation. The new punks have shouted against Iliescu again, which made him feel 17 years younger. However, the national tragedy of those times is no more than an embarrassing prank. One could say to these kids: "Guys, why do you shout at grandpa here? Don’t you see he can hardly walk? What if he did the things he did to us while he had the Power? He is powerless now, because God doesn’t punish with the stick".

Does anyone care anymore if Geoana, Oprescu or Iorgovan wins the elections? If the latter wins it will really cause a change, but a wrong change for the party, because it would take the party back in time, when it had to give up the power and the empire of maximum corruption the Romanians have ever grown to know. The other two are interchangeable. There’s only a matter of vanity between the two, because there is no difference regarding the doctrine or the vision since neither of them doesn’t seem to know anything about leading a party. There is no doubt about the result: Geoana will win due to the inertia in the party, to the novelty phobia of the SDP members, a phobia that they have always shown in the past. So what if he wins? The party will not have greater results in the polls ever, because all the opportunists that used to vote him ran to the winner of the day, DP (the Democrat Party), the new host of the Romanian "mediocrity" that the party’s owner, Traian Basescu, talked about. Therefore, the President was right once again, but the mediocrity mainly came to his own yard.

The situation of the Romanian liberalism, which gets clearer by the day, is more alive than ever. Like a star with an enormous mass, Basescu managed to tear apart and attract a part of the liberal planet by leaving a huge hole in the center of it. The NLP (the National Liberal Party) of Tariceanu and Patriciu will probably get lost in the eternal and frozen space below the electoral threshold. There, it will meet minuscule meteoric fragments from the NPCDP (the National Peasants’ Christian-Democratic Party). Unfortunately, at this moment in time, I cannot see a better faith for the party of Stolojan and Mona Musca. LDP (the Liberal Democrat Party) has too many weaknesses (the main problem being the doubtful past of the two mentioned leaders) to be able to become success. For a period of time, it will probably become the traveling companion of DP after which it will go one way or the other: it could be abandoned by PD, or it will merge with it, which, in both cases, means the failure of the liberal mentality.

This is an unhappy evolution of the Romanian "parliamentarism" under the severe hand of President Traian Basescu.
