BUSINESS - July 21 2004

Turbomecanica Bucuresti and Rolls-Royce struck a deal at the International Air Show in Farnborough for the Romanian company to deliver airplane engine parts to the British one. The representatives of Turbomecanica refused to tell the value of the contract citing the requirements made in that regard by their British counterpart. "Currently, Rolls-Royce and Turbomecanica explore new avenues for joint development of other aviation and marine products," a press-release issued by the Turbomecanica said. The two companies partnered together 30 years ago, when Rolls-Royce granted Turbomecanica the right to build the Viper 632 engine. Since 1980 the two companies worked together on developing the post-combustion Viper and the turbo engine for civilian purposes, Spey. Turbomecania turned in 1990 a provider of engine parts for Rolls-Royce.

The estimates of the Romanian company show a 30 million turnover this year. The majority shareholder at Turbomecanica is Turboact, the association of its employees and management, with 63.3%, followed by private investment funds, with 21.18%, and the rest of 15.22% going to small shareholders.
