OBSERVATOR - June
A ship flying a North-Korean flag sunk on Saturday night, while anchored in the Agigea Sea Port.
A port operator called at 1:30 a.m. the police officers with the Naval Transportation Office to inform that the ship Nazer T, docked at Warf 110, in South Agigea Port, leaned side-ways while being loaded with timber and logs.
When the investigating team arrived the ship was 45 degrees on its right, and in the next hour made a 160 turn around its axis, going down bottom up. The 14-strong crew was saved. The ship sailed to Agigea coming from the biggest Romanian sea-port, Constanta, where it took on a 562 tons load of caustic soda. After the ship sunk, timber and logs floating on the sea-surface where secured from drifting away with the belt for containment of oil pollution. First findings in the investigation show the alleged culprit for the incident to be the commander of the ship, Syrian citizen Kanafani Mohammad. Romanian authorities are continuing the investigation to establish the exact causes for the ship to flip over.
