The Stirbey Palace Goes On Sale

01 Oct 2004   •   00:00

OBSERVER - October 1st 2004

The inheritors of the Stirbey family want to sell their palace in downtown Bucharest, on Calea Victoriei Street. The family recently had the property over the palace restored, but it does not have the funds needed for maintaining the building, said Baron Jakob Kripp, the husband of Princess’s Maria Stirbey niece.

He said that given the location of the Stirbey Palace and its historical value the price could get pretty high, given that the restoration work could cost around one million euros. Ileana Kripp as the niece of Maria Stirbey and her heir also got the vineries at Dragasani. As for the Palace, it is possible that other heirs will come up to claim it too.

"The unfolded surface of the palace is around 2,500 square meters. We hope that an investor would do something beautiful here," said Kripp, who also informed that the family received no offer so far.
Three years ago, Ileana Kripp got back the vineries in Dragasani, including a 20 hectares vinery on production and the wine cellars. The vinery belonged to the Stirbey family since the 18th century, when the Dragasani wine was famous beyond the borders of then Romanian territories.
