The Government nominated Dacian Ciolos, former minister for agriculture, as Romania's candidate for the position of European Commissioner, prime-minister Emil Boc said. He will put forth the proposal to President Traian Basescu on Monday, for approval.
Dacian Ciolos is trained as farming engineer, and was Romania's minister for agriculture between October 2007 and December 2008, in the Calin Popescu Tariceanu Government.According to EU procedures, the member-states put forth their option for a candidate for the positions as EU Commissioner, while the European Commision President is the one to decide the portfolio going to the member-state.
