A few days ago, on the 11th of July 2006 and on the 13th of July 2006 two complaints have been filed at the General Prosecutorsâ Office. They were against the Minister of National Defense, Teodor Atanasiu. One of them was signed by the Presidential Adviser Adriana Saftoiu and the other by the SDP deputy Eugen Bejinariu.
Yesterday, the 20th of July 2006, the Presidential Commission for the analysis of the intimations regarding the illegalities committed by the members of the Government has been called in order to discuss the request of Ilie Botos, the General Prosecutor, regarding the starting of an enquiry against Minister Teodor Atanasiu as a consequence of the two assessments.
Everyone knows that there are trucks with charges that arrive at the headquarters of the General Prosecutorsâ Office every day. Many of them are made just for the sake of it. The Romanians are telling of people. Especially when it comes to their superiors. Due to these facts, the representatives of the General Prosecutorsâ Office push each complaint.
The
case of Teodor Atanasiu is an exception. Ilie Botos made all the necessary papers almost instantaneously in order for the entire media to talk about the investigation regarding Teodor Atanasiu, even though this investigation is yet to start officially. He even found time to send the papers to Cotroceni.
President Traian Basescu is a busy man. He has a lot of things to do. He has to do all he can in order to use the present situation of the poor Romanians in Lebanon as a mean to attract more citizens on his side. He has to take the first lady to the restaurant. However, he found enough time to call the Presidential Commission at an instant.
The fact that Ilie Botos hurried to take care of the complaint signed by Adriana Saftoiu is perfectly understandable:
a) Adriana Saftoiu is quite close to the President. Ilie Botos, the position of which is directly influenced by the Presidentâs decisions, could have omitted this complaint.
b) The complaint of Adriana Saftoiu has valid grounds.
By doing such a stupid thing as saying he had secret information about the Presidential adviser, Teodor Atanasiu only harmed himself. The quickly calling of the Presidential Commission by Traian Basescu is also understandable. He couldnât have left Adriana Saftoiu alone on this matter. The things that are less understandable happened in the case of the complaint signed by Eugen Bejinariu, because he is a SDP (the Social Democratic Party) deputy. Moreover, for a long period of time, he has been seen as a fast friend of PM Adrian Nastase. Judging by the precedent judgments made by the Justice led by Monica Macovei, we would have expected for the General Prosecutor to rather start an investigation against Eugen Bejinariu, than to take care of a complaint made by Eugen Bejinariu. The complaint of the former friend of Minister Adrian Nastase is one of the most strange documents in the past decade. Adriana Saftoiu had every right to file the complaint against the Teodor Atanasiu since she has been the target of his accusations.
There havenât been any actions of the Minister to attack Eugen Bejinariu in any kind. Actually, the complaint is one of the most abstruse complaints ever seen. He stated that Minister Atanasiu stretched is authority by demanding the withdrawal of the troops from Iraq, because he tried to advertise himself this way. Judging by this, Eugen Bejinariu should have also filed a complaint against Traian Basescu, because he uses the Romanians in Lebanon to gain some more credit in the eyes of the electorate.
What is the explanation of this hurry regarding the pushing of the complaint signed by such a SDP member? It is quite simple. The SDP member is actually a DP (the Democratic Party) member. Or, should I a say member of the newly formed presidential party, DP-SDP?
