EVENT - July 17 2004

"I’ve been warmly welcomed in Romania", stated the USA ambassador in Bucharest, Jack Dyer Crouch II, after arriving in Romania on Thursday. In a press conference held yesterday, he stated that he is very happy President Bush assigned him this job. Jack Dyer Crouch II mentioned that the present ambassador, Michael Guest, suggested "getting out of Bucharest, meeting the people of Romania, the sites outside Bucharest and the Romanian culture in order to understand better the environment which he is to work in".

About corruption, "a very important matter", the new ambassador of Washington, whose carrier is not a political one, him being the assistant of the Defense Secretary for the International Strategy of Security, stated that his priority is to help Romania become a "safe and wealthy country" from all the points of view. The ambassador is optimistic about the American investments. "Our goal is to be sure that Romania will have the proper environment to attract the foreign investments, not only the American ones", stated Crouch. (Anca Aldea)
