It starts to get rougher and rougher in PSD with each day going by, because the Congress on the 10th of December is getting close. Senator Ion Iliescu (photo) started an attack against Miron Mitrea yesterday. He was against the rules proposed by the Secretary General of the party, because they say the candidacies must submitted by the 1st of December. "There are no such restrictions in the partyâs statute" Iliescu said and he explained that it wasnât normal for the National Permanent Bureau to impose such a limitation. "There can be surprise candidacies during the Congress as well", Iliescu continued. The Senator was argued against by the PSD spokesperson, Cristian Diaconescu, who doesnât see anything against the rules in setting a deadline. "These rules are part of the partyâs statute", Diaconescu stated. He showed this was a set of rules agreed on during last weekâs NPB meeting, when no one was against it.
PREFERENCES. As for the PSD presidency, the battle seems to be quite tough. Sorin Oprescu came to the NPB meeting on yesterday and informer the partyâs leading board about his candidacy. "They were all happy, because competition is normal in a party like ours", Sorin Oprescu ironically commented. He got argued against by Diaconescu as well, who said that the Bucharest PSD leader didnât make any announcement. "I asked him whether he submitted his candidacy and he answered he would think it over", Mitrea plumped up, wanting to emphasize his support for Mircea Geoana once again. Viorel Hrebenciuc also said he would go for the present president of the party.
