Romania's president Traian Basescu would get a second mandate, had elections been held tomorrow, a public poll conducted by INSOMAR found.

Basescu would get 59% of the votes, with the SDP president Mircea Geoana coming second, at 13% of the votes, and Bucharest mayor and former SDP member Sorin Oprescu coming third, with 8% of the votes.

When it comes to how much trust the public places in the current political leaders, Basescu still get the front seat, followed by Sorin Oprescu, Emil Boc, Mircea Geoana, Theodor Stolojan and Calin Popescu Tariceanu.

As for their liking or disliking of the current governing coalition, 43% of the respondents said it was the best possible solution, with 26% disagreeing, and the rest being undecided.

At the same time, some 33% of Romanians believe Basescu was instrumental into forging the current ruling coalition.
Almost half of the respondents said Emil Boc was a good choice for a prime minister, with 14% disagreeing.
The INSOMAR poll was conducted between 22 and 27 January 2009 and has a margin of error of 2.8%.
