Slatina - The Pirelli Factory

This year Pirelli will start the construction of a tire factory near Slatina. The investment is to value several millions of U.S. dollars stated close sources of the Italian company for the Mediafax agency. The Italian company already started the operations concerning the purchase of the field needed for the headquarters of the factory. The total area is to have almost 500,000 square meters.

EXTENT. The Pirelli president, Marco Tronchetti Provera, announced in May that the company is interested in extending its operations in China and Eastern Europe and has booked funds having a total value of 870 million euros for the investments in the future three years. The Italian producer is now on the Romanian market only with commercial operations, developed by several importers. The company also wishes to start producing metallic cord in Romania - the negotiations with the Bulgarian Company EP Commerce for the purchase of Cord Buzau have started for a while now.

COMPETITION. From the great international companies in this domain, in Romania, Continental and Michelin already have production capacities. In the same time, Goodyear has a subsidiary in Romania, and Bridgestone is represented by several importers.
